Great indoors or out! Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) is a hardy, low-maintenance houseplant that thrives in bright indirect light up to full sun. Its thick, succulent leaves dusted with white spots offer a bold, architectural look to indoor and outdoor spaces. Aloe's drought tolerance lends itself well to use in xeriscapes and other water-wise plantings.
Plants may produce tall spikes of yellow flowers under optimum conditions and reach a height of 2-3 feet and a spread of similar dimensions over time via the production of offsets. Hardy in zones 8-11, may be grown outdoors in the summer and overwintered indoors in cooler climates. Not frost hardy. While tolerant of a wide variety of light levels, aloes struggle with wet, moisture-retentive soils and should be allowed to dry out completely between watering. Use of a cactus or succulent soil mix is recommended.
